Tony Lee Partner
I am married to Jackie & just getting to the prime of my life at the age of 62. I live in Ewloe, North Wales. Not many people know where Ewloe is but they do recognise Hawarden which is the next town as a favourite English footballer, Michael Owen, hails from there.
I started my working career as an Articled Clerk at a Chartered Accountants which is now known as Grant Thornton but when I joined was called Thornton Baker. I studied Accountancy for five years.
Although I was born & raised in Rainhill in Lancashire, I spent the majority of my life living in either Maghull or Blundellsands on Merseyside. Initially I worked as an Accountant in various companies throughout Merseyside, eventually becoming bored with form filling & deciding that I preferred Sales & Marketing which allowed you to express yourself better.
My initial foray into this area took me into owning my own telecommunications business just when BT was starting to be liberalised in 1982. I ran that for ten years until I was head hunted by Mercury Communications, at that time a division of Cable & Wireless.
I quickly established myself as a Senior Account Manager but very soon after winning one of the largest Voice deals for C & W, a new CEO was appointed. He culled all the Senior Account Managers & I was made redundant. I was very disappointed & decided to move away from the telecommunications arena.
I worked as a Business Consultant concentrating on utilising the training I received whilst working for C & W. This culminated in me being asked to become the Sales Director of the UK arm of an American company specialising in Website & Software testing. However after two years & an American downturn their opinion was that they would axe the UK branch & once again I was made redundant.
It was becoming apparent to me that the most attractive propositions were those were you worked self employed & I returned to earning a living that way. It was at this time that I began to be aware that some people were beginning to invest in property & I was hooked. I read avidly including Brian’s Baggarley’s book & decided that I would start to utilise the negotiation skills which I had been taught at C & W to provide an income.
